James began his singing career competing in talent quests and featuring as a guest artist in various Bowling, Leagues and R.S.L club bands across Sydney.

He later formed his own rock 'n' roll band, working extensively within Sydney's club circuit. Performing rock 'n' roll classics and timeless ballads, James gained an immense following. He later formed a duo, performing in local venues as well as private functions, corporate engagements and birthday parties.
